The Red Labels are a four piece alternative indie punk band from north Dublin who in the past few months have managed to capture the ears and imagination of music fans throughout the city and beyond.
The band has been together for less than a year but they are well on their way to becoming one of Dublin’s top acts. The Red Labels, (Dean Regan – vocals/guitars, Richie Martin – vocals/bass, Paul McKenna – guitars, and Conor Mcgivern - drums) have just returned from their second stint in the studio with LA based producer Jason Donaghoe. This time around saw the lad’s record three brand new tracks. This follows on from their 2007 demo that featured songs “Fire” and “All Night”. Both these tracks attracted huge attention from fans and critics alike and earned them airplay on national radio up and down the county.
The last few months have seen them headlining Whelan’s of Wexford street, winning The JD Sets in Dublin’s Crawdaddy, playing their debut gig in London’s Spice of Life, playing two sold out shows at Dublin’s Boom Boom Room and K2 Nightclub, as well as becoming the first band out of two hundred to make it through to the quarter finals of Phantom FM’s Battle of the bands for a slot at Oxegen 2008.
Their live performances are bursting with energy. With a concrete rhythm section, insanely catchy bass lines, punchy lead and rhythm guitars and two superbly distinct and different vocals, unsurprisingly, 2008 looks set to be a very busy year for the lads. With more studio time and a host of gigs both here and abroad on the cards, The Red Labels are well on their way to proving that they are a band who are here to stay.
"Quality indie guitar music" - John Meagher / Irish Independent
“As the north side continues to produce some of the best bands we have heard in ages, we've got another one to add to the list. The Red Labels are an indie punk quartet producing some of the most inspired original lyrics we've heard in ages, they are punctuated by a punchy rhythm section and raw vocals that are made for live performances. The lads have literally just recording their debut EP, and Relevant Thoughts, along with the rest of their catalogue can be downloaded for free on their myspace page www.myspace.com/theredlabelsire” - InDublin Magazine
“The Red Labels have enough punch to keep Queens Of The Stone Age fans happy but their vocal dexterity gives them a very definite edge, likened to a grunge era Ramones”. – DVS @ Eamonn Doran’s
“The Red Labels have been hopping from one Dublin venue to another in recent weeks and this week is no exception. Headlining in Whelan’s of Wexford Street last night these guys proved their here to stay. Playing to a modest Wednesday night crowd not even the fence-hangers could resist their poignant red-letter set. Touching on an early 80's punk vibe with a genuinely superb vocal aptitude and a truly underived sound all of their own”. – Labels Rock Whelan’s.
