Reader’s Wives brief bio
Reader’s Wives are an informed, fun loving actively independent band of musical misfits assembled around Dublin City songwriter and general thorn in the side of the established music industry, Niall James Holohan.
If you’ve not heard of Reader’s Wives yet, you’re in for a real treat.
Formed in the Spring of 2007, the Wives have been building a reputation as a refreshingly unpretentious and genuinely life affirming live experience. Indie rock bumps up against social satire in their flagship single ‘Advertising Heroin’ - Comedy against seriously beautiful ballads and schizophrenic guitar noise elsewhere and live, audience participation is a must.
In fact, with successful tours of Belgium and Germany recently completed, Reader’s Wives are also emerging as a business savvy live band, protective of their work & actively looking to use their live show as the centre of their enterprise / to play and entertain outside of Ireland as well as in. Their debut album cover itself is a statement of intent. “Europe’s my home and each light’s a place I aim to play” Niall says.
For someone so young, the former “dark prince of pop” is very aware of the changes in the worldwide industry and has many interesting ideas on how to negotiate the loopholes these changes are leaving for independent artists like himself and those in the Wives. Active in the industry and successfully representing the band at business meetings and the recent Midem festival in Canne (January ’08), Niall also wrote and produced their self titled debut album, which goes on general release here on March 29
The band bring their wild live show to Whelan’s that night, to celebrate the release.
